ABUJA, NIGERIA | 2 July 2026
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially endorsed the Flight of Resilience, an ambitious aviation initiative led by renowned Nigerian aviator Captain Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin, who is preparing to undertake a historic nonstop solo flight from the United Kingdom to Nigeria aboard a Long-EZ experimental aircraft.
The endorsement was announced following a meeting between the project team and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, in Abuja on 1 July 2026.
Expected to last approximately 18 to 20 hours, the mission is far more than an aviation feat. If successful, it is expected to establish a Guinness World Record for the smallest aircraft to complete a nonstop flight between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
During the meeting, Minister Keyamo described the initiative as a powerful demonstration of the resilience, innovation and determination of Nigerians. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that elevate Nigeria’s profile within the global aviation industry while inspiring future generations.
Captain Odujinrin, whose heritage spans Iperu Remo and Ìjẹ̀bú in Ogun State, has earned international recognition for his long-distance flying achievements. Through the Flight of Resilience, he hopes not only to make aviation history but also to encourage young Nigerians to pursue careers in aviation, aerospace, engineering and other STEM disciplines.
The delegation also included Captain Lawrence Ejezie and Idowu Thompson, who joined discussions with the Ministry on the significance of the project and its potential impact on Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Beyond the pursuit of a world record, the Flight of Resilience represents a story of courage, technical excellence and national ambition. It reminds us that heritage is not only preserved in monuments and traditions but is also created through remarkable achievements that inspire generations to come.
At The Heritage Live, we believe today’s milestones become tomorrow’s history. The Flight of Resilience is one such story – celebrating Nigerian excellence while contributing to Africa’s living heritage.
